Shoulder Pain Treatment in Memphis, TN

Common Shoulder Pain Issues

Shoulder pain can hamper the ability to move freely and cut your range of motion short. Some shoulder pain is normal, particularly due to aging. However, if your shoulder pain is making it difficult to perform simple tasks around the house or at work, that’s not normal.

At the Memphis Regenerative Healthcare, our regenerative medical treatments can help your shoulders get back to feeling closer, if not completely, normal.

Causes of Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain mainly occurs due to age, but there are several possible causes that may affect younger people, too, such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Dislocation
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Liver, heart, or gallbladder diseases
  • Occupation
  • Pinched nerve
  • Poor posture
  • Rotator cuff injury
  • Shoulder surgery
  • Sleeping on the side
  • Sports or exercise
  • Tendonitis
  • Torn cartilage

How We Treat Shoulder Pain

We treat shoulder pain with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a type of regenerative medicine. PRP therapy is an injection-based treatment that’s derived from a patient’s blood.

After we’ve drawn the blood sample, that sample is separated into different parts in a centrifuge. We extract one of the components, plasma, for PRP therapy. Plasma is filled with platelets, which clot in order to stop bleeding. Platelets are one of the most important parts of the body’s healing process.

The content of PRP injections contains a higher concentration of platelets than what’s found in normal blood, which can help accelerate and improve the healing process.

The risk of a patient’s body rejecting PRP therapy or having an allergic reaction is incredibly low because the source for the injections come from the patient’s own body. The risks of PRP therapy are the same ones found from any injection-based treatment:

  • Nerve damage
  • Nerve injuries
  • Infection
  • Tissue damage
  • Pain and/or swelling at the site of the injection

Patient Treatment Process

The initial consultation will involve you and a healthcare specialist discussing your pain, medical history, and/or any other important factors to determine if our regenerative medical treatments are the best option for you.

Following the first consultation (and assuming that you are an ideal candidate for our treatments), we’ll begin the treatment process at the next appointment. PRP therapy is a minimally invasive procedure with a very low chance for any complications, so in the vast majority of cases, our patients are able to leave after the treatment.

Depending on the intensity of your shoulder pain, multiple rounds of PRP therapy and follow-up appointments may be needed.
