Common Hand Pain Issues
Typing, writing, drawing, lifting, grabbing, catching, holding… these are all things the human hand is capable of doing. Given all of the actions that hands go through on a daily basis, it’s not entirely uncommon for them to experience pain now and again. But if your hand pain is chronic and consistent, that’s a problem.
Here at the Memphis Regenerative Healthcare, we offer regenerative medicine as a treatment solution to your hand pain problems.
Causes of Hand Pain
When considering all of the different movements and activities hands are able to do, it’s not too surprising that the causes of hand pain are just as diverse. A few common causes of hand pain include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
- Ganglion cysts
- Trigger finger
- Wrist pain
How We Treat Hand Pain
We treat hand pain using a type of regenerative medicine called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP therapy is an injected treatment derived from a patient’s own blood. After drawing a blood sample from the patient, we separate the sample’s components in a centrifuge. Then we extract the plasma, which is a part of blood that’s teeming with platelets, from the centrifuge. Platelets are the blood cells that are responsible for clotting, which is very important when healing injuries.
The contents of PRP injections contain a higher concentration of platelets than of that found in a typical blood sample. This accelerates the body’s healing process. The idea behind PRP is that if there are more platelets present in an injured area of the body, the pain will lessen as the healing process improves.
One of the benefits of PRP therapy is that the contents of the injection come from the patient, which means there is an incredibly low risk of their body rejecting the treatment or of an allergic reaction. The risks of this treatment are the same risks involved with any injection:
- Nerve damage
- Nerve injuries
- Tissue damage
- Pain and/or swelling at the injection site
Patient Treatment Process
In your first consultation at the Memphis Regenerative Healthcare, one of our healthcare specialists will discuss your pain, medical history, and other factors to determine if our regenerative medical treatments are the best option for your hand pain.
Once we’ve approved you for treatment, we’ll schedule an appointment in order to begin the treatment process. PRP therapy is a quick procedure that rarely requires downtime to recover, so you can get back to your day without any hassles.
Depending on the severity of your hand pain, follow-up appointments and multiple rounds of treatment may be necessary.
